is a cosmetic technique which employs tattoos (permanent pigmentation of the dermis) as a means of producing designs that resemble makeup, such as eyelining and other permanent enhancing colors to the skin of the face, lips, and eyelids. It is also used to produce artificial eyebrows, particularly in people who have lost them as a consequence of old age, disease, such as alopecia, chemotherapy, or a genetic disturbance, and to disguise scars and white spots in the skin such as in vitiligo. It is also used to restore or enhance the breast’s areola, such as after breast surgery.

Permanent makeup results in enhanced features of the face—definition is rendered to eyebrows, eyes and lips by the use of colours. Results can imitate topically applied cosmetics or can be quite unnoticeable, depending upon the design, color value and amount of pigment used.
At first, permanent makeup results may look darker. This is due to colour remaining in the outermost epidermal layers of skin at the start. Colour softens within a few days during the healing process as the upper layers of epidermis slough and are replaced by new epidermal cells.
Long term results
The best possible colour results can perform for many years or may begin to fade over time. How much time is individual per person. While permanent makeup pigment remains in the dermis its beauty-span may be influenced by several possible factors. These can be environmental, procedural and/or individual factors. Sun exposure fades colour. The amount and colour of pigment deposit at the dermal level can affect the length of time that permanent makeup looks its best. Very natural looking applications are likely to require a touch-up before more dramatic ones for this reason. Individual influences include lifestyles that find an individual in the sun regularly such as with gardening or swimming. Skin tones are a factor in colour value changes over time.
Permanent Eye Liner
Benefits of Eyeliner Tattooing
Permanent eyeliner or eyelash enhancement helps women and men enhance the appearance of their eyes. It eliminates the need to outline eyelids with liquid liners or pencils and improves the appearance of missing, thin, or light colored lashes. Permanent eyeliner allows people to swim, shower, or exercise without having makeup smudges. It provides safety and convenience to people with oily skin, vision problems, or unsteady hands. Eye doctors (Ophthalmologists and Optometrists) also recommend permanent eyeliner to patients who wear contact lenses, have watery eyes, or are allergic to regular makeup.

Eyeliner Shape and Design
Eyeliner “frames” the eyes and can make eyelashes appear darker, fuller, or thicker. It can enhance the shape or balance (symmetry) of a person’s eyes, create the illusion of larger eyes, or affect how the spacing of the eyes is perceived. Eyeliner can also enhance or intensify eye color and make eyes appear more alluring.
Eyeliner Tattoo Techniques
Eyelash Base Enhancement: This method is for people who want an extremely natural look. Pigment is tattooed only in the skin at the base of eyelashes in-between their rows. No obvious line is drawn beyond the last row of lashes. This causes the eyelash base to appear darker and fuller and frames the eye without the look of having eyeliner. Men choose this procedure to add definition to their eyes without looking like they are wearing makeup.
How Permanent Eyebrows Can Help You
Permanent eyebrows help women and men whose eyebrow hair is lightly colored, thin in places, sparse overall, or nonexistent. Eyebrow hair loss can result from years of tweezing or waxing, medical conditions (e.g. scars or Alopecia), or medications (e.g. Chemotherapy). Eyebrow tattoos eliminate the daily use of pencils or powders to fill-in, reshape, or recolor brows. Eyebrow shape, thickness, color, density, height, balance, and symmetry can be corrected once and for all with eyebrow tattooing to improve the attractiveness of a person’s face.

Eyebrow Shape and Design
Eyebrows “frame” the eyes and are a reference point that determines how facial features are perceived. The appropriate eyebrow shape and size can appear to lift a person’s eyes creating a more youthful appearance. Properly designed eyebrows can balance the distance between eyes or modify the look of prominent or deeply set eyes. A good eyebrow design can also make cheekbones appear more defined and influence the perception of the person’s nose size.
A new permanent eyebrow procedure includes a face and eyebrow analysis with a new design if you desire. We will create custom designed eyebrows that are flattering and balanced. And you will participate in the entire process so you’re happy with the end result.
Quality and Safety of Your Eyebrow Procedure
We are experienced in tattooing eyebrows using multiple colors and methods including simulated hair strokes, feathering, and shading. We have extensive education in human anatomy, physiology, and infection control. We have successfully tattooed eyebrows on patients with scars from injuries and burns, eyebrow hair transplants, and no hair (Alopecia patients). We also can help cancer patients before and after their hair loss from chemotherapy.
Eyebrow Tattoo Options
Eyebrow Enhancement: This procedure is for people with thin, partial, or very light eyebrows. It supplements existing eyebrow hair to improve shape, thickness, arch, or balance. Also, bald spots or bare sections can be hidden or filled-in. For the most natural look we use a simulated hair stroke technique to create “hairs.” She can also achieve a soft shaded or powdery look.
Preparing for Your Procedure Appointment
You should allow at least 2 to 3 hours for your initial procedure. If you usually shape your brows by tweezing, shaving, threading, or waxing, you should do so a few days before your appointment. You should stop taking any blood-thinning products 3 days before (e.g. aspirin, alcohol, fish oils) unless prescribed by your physician. You should also wear your eyebrow pencil or powder for style evaluation and bring it with you for color matching. Additional preparation guidelines will be given to you when the procedure appointment is scheduled at your consultation.
At Your Permanent Eyebrow Procedure
You will fill out forms including a medical history that we will review. We will analyze your face shape, features, and eyebrows including their symmetry (evenness). We will create symmetry and pencil different designs so you can see what you like best. Together you will select color, and then we will apply a topical anesthetic to numb your eyebrows. Afterward we will re-create your custom design as the pattern to follow during the tattooing process. Anesthetics will be applied during the procedure for your comfort. Before and after photos will be taken for your confidential file and your pigment colors will be recorded for future reference.
After Your Permanent Eyebrow Procedure
Immediately after the procedure, your eyebrows will be darker than you want. There will be some mild swelling and redness that will clear in a day or two. The color will lighten quickly during the first week, then gradually soften and stabilize over the next few weeks. During the first week of healing, your eyebrows will be dark and a little shiny from applying ointments. You must also avoid swimming, saunas, and the sun, so you should keep this in mind when scheduling your procedure. To minimize any chance of an allergic reaction or infection at home, we will give you detailed after care instructions with a kit at no additional cost.
Follow-up and Maintenance Appointments
Your eyebrow color will gradually lighten and stabilize in the weeks following your procedure. If they heal lighter than you want, they can be darkened with a second application at a follow-up visit (“touch-up”). You may need a follow-up to adjust shape or add color to areas that healed lighter from tissue swelling or bleeding during the tattooing process. Ideally, your second visit should be completed between 4 to 8 weeks post procedure. Because permanent makeup can fade over time, you can schedule maintenance visits every few years to keep your color looking fresh.
Permanent Lip Color
How Permanent Lip Liner and Lip Color Can Help You
Permanent lip liner and color can improve the appearance of lips for women and men. It helps lips appear more defined without surgery or fillers and restores color to lips that are too pale. Permanent lip liner eliminates the daily use of pencils to outline, fill-in, or reshape lip borders. Permanent lip color decreases the need to reapply lipstick or lip gloss. Lip tattooing helps correct and balance the symmetry of lips that are uneven, too thin, too thick, or scarred. It can also enhance the natural color and shape of “perfect” lips.

Lip Shape, Design, and Color
Lips are an important beauty feature of the mouth. They form a smile and show emotions. They help “frame” a person’s teeth and determine attractiveness. When lips are well shaped and balanced, they align with the center of a person’s face and have even sides. The upper lip and lower lip should match and should be equally proportioned. A flattering Cupid’s bow (the top “points” of the upper lip) is one that is not too flat, pointy, or rounded.
Each new permanent lip color procedure includes a face and lip shape analysis. We will work with you to create a custom designed lip shape that is flattering and pleases you. We will also help you choose a color that gives you flexibility to change it later by applying a different shade of lipstick when you want.
Quality and Safety of Your Lip Procedure
We are experienced in tattooing lips using multiple colors and methods including a basic liner, lip liner with blending, and full lip color. We have extensive education in human anatomy, physiology, and infection control
Lip Tattoo Techniques
Blended Lip Liner: This method is for anyone who wants a lip liner that appears soft. We create a liner on the lip border and then shades it inward slightly so it appears as if the person’s lipstick has been eaten-off. This technique is more attractive than a lip liner by itself (plain line) which can appear harsh and unnatural. Uneven lip borders can be balanced with this procedure.
Full Lip Color With Liner: This method is for anyone who wants the appearance of wearing lipstick with a defined lip line. We first creates a liner on the lip border then implants color inward throughout the fleshy part of the lips. When healed, lip gloss can be worn alone or different colors of lipstick can be applied on top. Uneven lip size can be adjusted by tattooing just outside or inside of the edges of the lips to balance thickness. Uneven lip borders can also be balanced with this procedure.
Preparing for Your Procedure Appointment
You should allow at least 3 hours for your initial procedure. If you remove facial hair around your lips by tweezing, threading, or waxing, that should be done a few days before your appointment. Electrolysis or laser hair removal should be completed 5 to 7 days before. Taking an anti-viral medication is recommended, especially if you have a history of Chicken Pox or cold sores. You should also wear and bring your favorite color lipstick or lip pencil for color matching. Additional preparation guidelines will be given to you when you schedule your procedure appointment.
During Your Permanent Lip Color Procedure
You will fill out forms including a medical history that we will review. We will evaluate the shape of your face and lips including their symmetry and fullness. We will discuss techniques and colors with you. After the best design and color have been determined, a topical anesthetic will be applied to numb your lips. The final pattern will then be drawn and approved by you as the template we will follow during your procedure. We will continue to apply anesthetics during the process to keep you comfortable. Before and after photos will also be taken for your confidential file with your colors recorded for future references.
After Your Permanent Lip Color Procedure
You lips will be temporarily swollen right after your procedure. They will be tender and may have some minor bruising in some places that will go away in a few days. Your lip color will definitely be brighter and darker than what you want. It will lighten a lot after your lips peel (about 3 to 6 days post procedure). The color will continue to soften and stabilize over the next several weeks. Your lips will be bright and slightly larger than normal (from swelling) during the first week of healing, so you should keep this in mind when scheduling your procedure. To minimize any chance of infection or allergic reaction at home, we will give you detailed after care instructions with a complete kit.
Follow-up and Maintenance Appointments
Your lips will gradually lighten and the color will stabilize over several weeks following your procedure. Lip tissue is different from regular skin, so it loses the most color following an initial tattooing procedure. Your lips will probably heal lighter than you want, but they can be darkened with a second application of pigment at a follow-up visit (“touch-up”). A follow-up might be needed to adjust shape or add color to areas that healed lighter from tissue swelling and bleeding during the tattooing process. Ideally, your second visit should be completed between 4 to 8 weeks post procedure. Because permanent makeup can fade over time, you can schedule maintenance visits every few years to keep your color looking fresh.
